US Broadband Penetration Jumps to 52.9% - Refactor to Improve Code Design

Optimization Week Issue #41, November 24, 2004

This week we've got some new data on broadband growth, NASA's interplanetary broadband laser, and the benefits of refactoring. Broadband penetration jumped to nearly 53% among active Internet users last month. NASA will beam bits back from Mars on a laser. In our Speed Tweak we explore the benefits of refactoring your code for easier updates, faster downloads and speedier execution.

In local news, due to increased demand for our Web Page Analyzer, we're taking steps to improve performance and resource utilization. More in the coming weeks.

US Broadband Penetration Jumps to 52.9% Among Active Internet Users - Interplanetary Broadband Laser
US broadband penetration jumped 1.53 percentage points to 52.86% in October 2004. NASA has begun work on a laser-based interplanetary broadband link to transmit data from the red planet. From the November 2004 Bandwidth Report.
Refactor to Improve Code Design
Refactoring restructures your code into a more simplified or efficient form in a disciplined way. Refactoring JavaScript, Java, and Flash code improves its internal structure without changing external functionality for more efficient execution, faster download speed, and easier updates.
